The Chroma 2 in stainless Damascus steel. Damascus steel was used to produce high quality knives due to its legendary hardness and decorative patterns. These patterns are similar to wood grains and it is achieved by having 2 different metals joined together.
Traditional Damascus steel was prone to rust so we turned to 'Damasteel' from Sweden. They are the leading suppliers of the finest stainless damascus steel which would not rust under normal use, while offering superior hardness.
Each Chroma case is CNC machined from a solid rod of Damasteel. It is then hand polished to a shine and finally treated with hydrochloric acid to bring out the subtle pattern. We went for a light etch as anything deeper might affect the fitment of the various parts.
Working with damasteel was extremely challenging, with a planned run of 50pieces. Only 25 pieces made it to completion and hence these are extremely limited.
The Chroma was a success but we wanted to produce an even better watch than the first.
Most noticeable is the addition of luminous paint to the hands and indices for added legibility during low light conditions.
The movement has also been upgraded aesthetically with a improved finishing and a cut out rotor.
The case is finely sculpted by modern CNC machines with refreshing clean lines grazing the contours. Up close, discover the sensuous curves of its case flanks that are perfectly smooth to the touch. A delicate mix of brushed and polished surfaces completes the experience.
The main crystal is crafted from sapphire, the hardest material available and scratched only by diamond. Its inner layer has been coated with an anti-reflective coating which primarily serves to prevent glare, and providing a beautiful blue tint at certain angles.
The dial was carefully designed to stay true to its minimalist roots, brushed with sleek radial lines to give off a sunburst effect that is beautiful and dynamically reflects light. An inner reflector ring replaces the traditional hour indices with cutouts, introducing dimension and depth. Finally, polished hands provide clear contrast for easy readability.
Case: 42mm diameter without the crown, the lugless design wears similar to a 40mm watch with typical lug. 11mm thickness
